Sorry, but I have to get this rant off my chest:

I was on my way home from work today when i pulled up to the last traffic light in the city before i hit a few open roads. Usually at this point, I get a glorious few moments to feed in some throttle before waiting in more soul-sucking traffic.

Today however, I was at the light in the right-hand lane behind a 2012 Civic SI, who was 1st in line, with traffic in the left.

Before the light changed, the Civic started doing the preemptive 'ricer roll', and when the light changed, he took off, and jumped into the left lane in front of the traffic that didn't storm off the line like an asshat. My first thought was that this guy liked to do the same thing I do when catching this light.

So, now that I had my open road back, I got on it a bit as well, but not much, as my off-ramp isn't far past the light. As my turn approached, the civic, which was still (barely) ahead of me, engine screaming, flipped on his 4 way flashers as if he had just won a race (and wanted to be a dick, I might add).

Really dude?! You can't run the light IN FRONT of the person you're "racing", and then claim a victory, especially against someone who didn't know we were racing in the first place!

Sorry, but some people shouldn't even be allowed to own cars. Have an LFA for your time.o

15 years later, Civic Si drivers haven't changed.

Yeah, I feel like that stereotype is justified, which is funny because I had an SI, and even then I felt like I needed a bumper sticker that said "I'm not an asshole"

What's wrong with taking off at the light if your first in line? I always hope people do this if I'm second so we can be past any slow pokes.

Is the flashers a know thing to do after "winning" something? Have not seen this before.

In closing. Lifes more enjoyable if you just laugh at the ass hats....if they actually were ass hats.

There's nothing wrong with a spirited start, but this guy had an agenda.

The 4-ways thing is a taunt, and usually you have to have something to taunt before you use them.

Here's the thing; deal with it meme.

You admit you like to do the same thing, a thing which - depending on circumstance and location - can earn you a violation citation, result in an accident or, more hopefully, let you 'win' the game of traffic. That's fine as long as you take responsibility for your actions.

But getting butthurt when someone does the same, and then pushes your determination of 'the line' beyond your comfort zone is pretty weaksauce, pretty lamesauce. The fact of the matter is that you're pushing the line, testing the comfort zone of those around you, just by doing what you do.

It's like the guy who pulls into the curb lane, typically used for right hand turns, and holds up traffic because he wants to jump the queue ahead of whomever before it merges back to one lane; he's a dick to those around him, but he's not really doing anything wrong . Then, when he jumps the light and get's tailgated by the guy from the inside lane and he's all, "I'm doing 10 over, what do you want?!"

It's the contradictory behavioral pattern common to most people, particularly in traffic - the belief, and resulting behavior, that we are alone in our transportation endeavors and that our fellow commuters are not our peers in this procession, but rather obstacles to be overcome.

I've never seen 4-ways as a taunt. I use it to say hello or thank you to people behind me.
